These larvae cannot tolerate high humidity and the ideal temperature to keep them healthy by slowing down metamorphosis is between 4°C and 8°C. You can store them in the refrigerator in a suitably ventilated box.
It is very important to remember that: "The better the feeder insects are fed, the more complete the nutrition of your exotic animals will be".
Mealworms are resistant insects and are very simple to maintain. Once received, let them acclimatise and decide whether you prefer to keep them in the fridge or keep them at room temperature by preparing a large tank for them with a substrate composed of cereal flours (bran, polenta flour, crumbled bread), insert an egg carton if you can to allow it to move freely without all the insects weighing on the same surface at the bottom;
To feed them, all you need to do is provide them with potatoes and carrots which will guarantee the correct water supply.
It is not recommended to cover the tank with a lid as the humidity would not be beneficial to the larvae, do not worry about any escapes as they are not able to climb on smooth surfaces.
We advise you to sprinkle them with Calcium Carbonate or Calcium D3 before providing them as food to your animals.
