This book is the first single volume to bring together information, photographs and maps of Oaxaca's 328 known reptile species.
The project is the culmination of about ten years of effort and many people. Fortunately, McKay has amassed considerable visual documentation, including images of previously unseen species.
The book will differ in many ways from other publications on Mexican herpetofauna with more details on ecology, more images by species, more informative maps, and natural history.
Dichotomous keys are illustrated, introductory chapters discuss evolution, ecology, and conservation in Oaxaca, and there is a snake scaling chart, an illustrated glossary, and medically accurate instructions for snakebite first aid .
