This mixture of peat and sand is also excellent for planted terrariums to compose the top dressing, or even as post-aeration on the seedbed of both ornamental and vegetable plants.
This mixture, having a screening peat of a few millimeters inside, also becomes ideal for transport faunaboxes for small animals, for arachnids and other insects but is also suitable for small ornamental gardens and bonsai, as it has a high nutritional value.
It is resistant to compaction and the sand offers excellent drainage, while the peat offers support and water retention, and acts as a natural organic substance and nutrition for the plants.
Soil performs many functions:
- guarantees the right exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide, avoiding bad odors in your terrariums;
- holds the optimal amount of water allowing burrowing animals to create tunnels that won't collapse;
- drains excess water, avoiding creating stagnation that causes the roots to rot;
- nourishes the plants thanks to the presence of peat, therefore it also acts as a fertilizer;
- promotes the rooting of plants because the roots can access water and nutrients more easily.
A suggestion to increase drainage and firmness would be to add perlite.
