It was in 2006 that some enterprising wholesalers began to increasingly offer amphibious land crabs which combined all the characteristics of an interesting and easy-to-keep terrarium animal. They were small, colorful and raising them according to their biological needs was not particularly challenging. They turned out to be quite compatible with each other and even easy to reproduce. Furthermore, crabs were, and still are, priced to make purchasing a small group of these attractive animals easily accessible to the terrarist interested in trying something new. Since their reproduction is almost strictly linked to water and most species of the genus Geosesarma offer their offspring fascinating maternal care, these little crabs soon became a favorite among terrarium enthusiasts and increasingly known as "vampire crabs". . It only took a short time for these animals to establish themselves firmly both in the terrarium pet trade and in terrarist circles. The growing demand also motivated suppliers to try to source more species or color variants in the countries of origin, so that the range of species and variants soon expanded to fifteen species. So far, however, only a few of these have established themselves firmly on the market and among managers. If you like well-decorated rainforest terrariums with a small aquatic section and perhaps even a decorative stream or waterfall that you want to populate with small but conspicuously colorful invertebrates, the Geosesarma genus may well prove to be a perfect choice.
