Drosophila Hydei live, reach dimensions of about 4mm, are suitable for:
- Small reptiles and young newborn specimens (newly born chameleons, newborn bearded dragons, young lizards, leopard geckos, ciliatus geckos etc.);
- Small amphibians (newly metamorphosed frogs, arrow frogs, young toads, salamanders and newts, etc.);
- Arachnids, Arthropods and other insects;
- Fish with adequately sized mouthparts, fish that feed on the surface and will appreciate them even if deceased;
- All small insectivorous animals;
- Young birds (birds of prey, corvids, blackbirds, etc.).

Drosophila Hydei is a large species of fruit fly. They are a genus belonging to the order of Diptera, highly prolific, easy to maintain.
Thanks to the high protein content (70.5% by weight), they are ideal for feeding newborn or small animals (Dendrobatids and other amphibians, young mantises, etc.).
Drosophile hydei are apterous, therefore unable to fly
