Schistocerca gregaria is a large species, native to Africa and Asia. It is an excellent source of proteins and fats, in fact it boasts balanced nutritional values ??with a composition generally of:

  • 62.3% moisture, 23.2% protein, 13.4% fat, 1.1% ash.

It is very important to remember that: "The better the feeder insects are fed, the more complete the nutrition of your exotic animals will be".

Gregarian locusts eat fresh herbs or cabbage, we do not recommend providing lawn grass but directly broad-leaved vegetables and carrots.
To avoid cannibalism you can provide food for insects and also kibble for dogs or cats.
To keep them healthy, remember to house them in a very tall, large and ventilated container or terrarium; All you need to do is insert some egg cartons that they will use as a shelter.

Unlike many insects, the best storage temperature should be between 28 and 35° C, with low humidity.

The bright colors and slow movements make them attractive prey and easy to catch by large, slow lizards.
