Coral sand 1Kg
Aragonite for marine aquariums, aquaterrariums for hermit crabs and crabs and habitats for marine or terrestrial isopods.
It is mostly composed of natural, highly pure calcium/magnesium carbonate. The grain size varies from 0.5 to 1.2 mm, making it ideal for shrimp, gobies, spirographs, anemones and snails.
- Color ivory;
- Optimizes chemical values and provides useful elements;
- Directly extracted from the sea or produced by crushing and crumbling hard corals that are no longer alive.
With this coral sand you will create the optimal conditions to have a substrate rich in bacterial fauna. Combined with its near chemical purity, dimensional consistency, and small grain structure, aragonite possesses numerous advantages that make it a superior source of calcium carbonate.
Very high quality substrate, composed of pure Aragonite, perfect for creating a rich base but free of harmful substances and does not release nitrates or phosphates and stabilizes the pH value and carbonate hardness.
Composed of 98% pure calcium carbonate, without impurities like other sands with an unsurpassed buffering capacity, it keeps the pH stable at 8.2.
One kg of oolitic aragonite aquarium sand offers over 1 million square cm of surface area providing enormous space to host bacteria that reduce ammonia, nitrates and nitrites. Oolitic Aragonite Sand is the ideal grain size for reef aquariums, aquariums, plenum systems and shelters.
Suggestions for use: ?
- If used to set up a new aquarium or a terrarium for crabs, hermit crabs and isopods, rinse the material well in a bucket using clean water. Do not use soap or other detergents. Continue rinsing the material until the excess water goes from milky to slightly cloudy. Place the rinsed sand in the empty aquarium, then fill it carefully with water. Start the filter system. Wait until the water is clear enough that you can see the back of the aquarium and the chemicals/pH/temperature are stable before adding fish and invertebrates. Any residual cloudiness will disappear after a few hours of pump operation.
- In established aquariums, rinse the substrate as above and mix small quantities into the existing sand bed. When using aragonite for African cichlids or other freshwater applications, note that slight cloudiness may persist through the aquarium cycle due to the high dissolution rates of calcium carbonate.
It is possible to use coral sand also mixed with the substrate for detrivorous animals and isopods, it will release elements useful for their life, remember that isopods are an order of crustaceans.
