ATTENTION,
in December the general volume of shipments physiologically causes delivery times to increase, please be patient.
The last shipments of live food and other arthropods for 2025 will be Tuesday the 9th and Wednesday the 10th. We recommend Storage Stop.
After this date, we will only ship upon request and at the customer's own risk.
The Siliquofera grandis is one of the largest grasshoppers in the world. Resembling a leaf, this orthopteran boasts adult specimens measuring about 15 cm with a wingspan of up to 25 cm, and weighing up to 30 grams.
In captivity, the larger females can live up to 2 years. They are also suitable for beginners; just be sure to be prepared to manage humidity and temperature, and provide appropriate food to keep them healthy!

DIET: They prefer brambles (blackberry bushes) and other Rubus varieties, such as roses (always make sure they are not treated with pesticides) and raspberries. Oak and apple leaves are also appreciated, but beech leaves are definitely a favorite. To keep the sprigs fresh longer, immerse them in a container containing previously washed pebbles or quartz to prevent insects from knocking them over.
They are fond of apples; always wash them before sticking them onto the sprigs in your terrarium.
It is a good idea to provide them with a nutritional supplement rich in protein, fiber, and calcium, as an alternative to small pieces of fish. Adding protein to their diet prevents cannibalistic behavior.
TEMPERATURE: It is recommended to keep the temperature around 24°C (75°F). High temperatures combined with the necessary high humidity can promote the formation of harmful mold.
LIGHTING: It is not necessary to provide UVB light but a natural diffused light is recommended respecting a clear photoperiod between day and night.
HUMIDITY: It is recommended to maintain a humidity level between 70 and 85%. For younger specimens, the optimal range is around 90% for the initial stage (L1-L2). Always use a thermo-hygrometer to monitor your terrarium.
TERRARIUM: Given the considerable size these insects can reach, we recommend keeping them in plastic boxes or glass terrariums at least four times larger than the animal itself. If you have a pair of 15 cm adults, we recommend a habitat that is at least 60 x 50 x 60 cm in height and width. It is not recommended to keep too many adults together, as this can lead to cannibalistic behavior. Be sure to provide plenty of surfaces for them to climb on and shed, such as branches, roots, and cork bark.
DEVELOPMENT: From nymph to adult, Siliquofera grandis undergoes about six moults, doubling in size with each moult. If temperatures are high, they can reach their final stage in as little as four months.
NOISE: Adults can produce a clicking sound, usually used to communicate during mating season. They may also flutter their wings when disturbed. However, these noises are generally infrequent unless you are very quiet.
