Asian sphagnum moss is an excellent humidity source thanks to its exceptional water absorption capacity.
Its low pH prevents mold growth and minimizes decomposition. Therefore, it is ideal as a hiding place for small amphibians, as a filler for "humid burrows" to promote moulting in reptiles, as a substrate for egg-laying, or to prevent substrates from becoming too compacted. Regularly moistening the sphagnum moss in the terrarium helps maintain high humidity levels, often the key to successful breeding of tropical animals.
A 100g block yields approximately 4-5 liters of moist sphagnum. Soak the block in plenty of water until it swells, then squeeze out excess water until the desired humidity level is reached.
A 200g block yields approximately 9-10 liters of moist sphagnum.
